Many parts of the country will continue to experience warm and humid weather in the next four days, with heat index reaching as high as 44 degrees Celsius in Sangley Point, Cavite today.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, the 44 degrees Celsius heat index in Sangley Point could be the highest in the next few days.
Metro Manila may also experience high heat index reaching 41.2 degrees Celsius today and tomorrow.
Weather specialist Meno Mendoza said the warm easterly winds will be the dominant weather system across most of the country until the weekend.
By Sunday, Baler, Aurora may reach a maximum heat index of 42.9 degrees Celsius; Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija at 42.6 degrees Celsius; Daet, Camarines Norte at 42.3 degrees Celsius; and San Jose, Occidental Mindoro at 42 degrees Celsius.
Heat index is the measurement of how hot it really feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature.
The highest heat index so far this year was recorded in San Jose last April 20 at 58 degrees Celsius.
There is “extreme danger” if the forecast heat index is over 54 degrees Celsius (over 130 degrees Fahrenheit) because heat stroke is imminent, PAGASA said.
PAGASA advised the public to observe “extreme caution” if the forecast heat factor is between 32 and 41 degrees Celsius (90 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit) because heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible, while continuing activity could result in heat stroke. (Ellalyn Ruiz)
