The local government unit (LGU) of Makati City on Wednesday warned residents, who are qualified for the financial aid of the city, of scammers trying to get their G-Cash personal details.
Makati City is currently distributing P5,000 cash assistance to its resident affected by the economic impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
The LGU has partnered with Globe Teleco to conveniently send the assistance through electronic money transfer using G-Cash accounts of residents.
It has come to the attention of the city government that text messages and e-mails were sent to some residents, trying to obtain personal details of residents that can be used to access their accounts.
The scammers were pretending to give them assistance, but what they are really after is the personal information of the account holder.
“Be cautious and do not give your G-Cash personal details to people who texted or emailed you,” the LGU warned.
Makati City reminded residents that their G-Cash accounts is somewhat their bank account.
“So do not give your G-Cash details to scammers,” it said.
The city government said they will go after the scammers, saying they will make sure that they will get arrested and sued. (Jel Santos)
