ILOILO CITY — A week after liquor ban was lifted in this city, a speeding car driven by a drunk Indian national killed a health worker and injured three others.
Killed was radiologic technologist Henry Jun Jardio.
The 30-year-old health worker was on his way home from hospital duty late night of Sunday when his motorcycle was hit by a speeding car that crossed over to the opposite lane along Pison Avenue in Mandurriao district.
Traffic investigator Police Staff Sergeant Jessie Cabial said Jardio’s body crashed into the hood of the car of suspect Harjinder Gill, a 44-year-old Indian national.
“The victim was wearing a helmet, but the impact of the crash was too strong,” Cabial said in a Monday interview.
Cabial noted that Gill speed off after hitting Jardio upon seeing a security guard approaching his vehicle.
When the suspect reached Carpenter’s Bridge, his car hit another motorcycle that was carrying John Tupaz, Jane Ricforte and Bonn Sean Sanz. The trio fell off the bridge.
According to Cabial, Gill had been drinking before the incident occurred.
Jardio, a former personnel of the Iloilo City Emergency Responders (ICER), is supposed to get married next month to his finacee Pearl Arroyo.
In a Facebook post, she said they were supposed to process their documents after the almost two-month lockdown. (Tara Yap)
