DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Z. Duterte has debunked the information circulating in the social media that the city might undergo a two-month lockdown if the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases would continue to rise.
This after a news article published last March has been shared again in Facebook.
Duterte said in an interview over 87.5 Davao City Disaster Radio that even if there are people who can stay in their homes for two months, majority of the residents could not endure to stay long.
The mayor said the city government will just manage the confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city through intensive contact tracing, testing and isolation of people who had close contact with infected persons.
She said the city is also preparing the cremation facility and mass grave of those who will die from coronavirus infection.
“Ang importante lang i-manage lang nato ug tarong, kay dili man gyud na mawala kay walay vaccine (The important thing is the proper management of the situation since the virus is already here and the city will be fine if the vaccine is already available),” she said.
Duterte said the city is setting up additional Covid-19 testing centers.
She said based on the May 25 data, the city has a total of 235 confirmed cases. Of the total, 99 are active cases, 111 recovered, and 25 deaths.
