TACLOBAN City – A retired soldier killed himself after shooting his 65-year-old wife thrice in Maasin City Tuesday.
Police identified the retired Philippine Army soldier as Master Sergeant Romeo Orit Carbonilla, 60, a resident of Brgy. Soro-soro, Maasin City.
Lt. Col. Mark Nalda, Maasin City Police Chief, said they were informed by a concerned citizen about the shooting incident at about 11 a.m. Tuesday.
The victim, Teresita Carbonilla, a retired government employee, was already rushed by relatives to the hospital due to gunshot wounds when the responding team arrived at the scene.
The police officers found the Romeo lying bloodied and lifeless in the bedroom on the second floor of the house. He appeared to have shot himself in the head.
Initial investigation disclosed that the Romeo and his wife frequently argued.
Probers learned that the wife and their 30-year-old daughter Kimberly were checking the cause of leaking water in their house when Romeo, who was reportedly suffering from mental illness, shot his wife in different parts of the body. He then turned the gun on himself and shot his head.
