A magnitude-5.1 earthquake hit the city of San Fernando, La Union yesterday.
The tremor was felt in parts of Pangasinan, Bulacan, and Metro Manila, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
According to Phivolcs, the epicenter of the quake at 1:17 p.m. was 57 kilometers northwest of San Fernando.
It had a depth of 81 kilometers and was tectonic in origin which is caused by ground shaking primarily due to the sudden movement in the Earth’s plates.
The quake was felt at Intensity IV in Labrador, Pangasinan, Intensity III in Quezon City, and Intensity II in Navotas City and San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan.
It was also felt at Intensity V in Dagupan City, Intensity IV in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur; Baguio City; San Jose City, and Nueva Ecija; and Intensity I in Cabanatuan City; Guagua, Pampanga; Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; Palayan City; San Ildefonso, Bulacan; and Baler, Aurora.
