BACOLOD CITY – Three persons, including a teacher, were killed while an infant was wounded in three separate shooting incidents in Negros Oriental this week.
On May 29, Basiledes Ledon, 59, of Barangay Poblacion, Guihulngan City, a public school teacher, was gunned down by two unidentified armed men on a motorcycle in the said village.
According to bystanders, the suspects reportedly parked their motorcycle nearby and one of them approached and shot the victim, a report from the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo) said.
The perpetrators, who were wearing jackets and bonnets, then fled.
Police recovered from the scene two cartridges and a slug of .45-caliber pistol.
Ledon, who sustained gunshot wounds in the different parts of the body, was rushed to Guihulngan District Hospital, where he was declared dead.
On May 27, a man was shot dead while his six-month old son was wounded in a gun attack at Sitio Campaclan, Barangay Poblacion in Sibulan town.
Slain was Reynold Paquit, 34. Police withheld the name of his son.
Based on the initial report of Norppo, Paquit was holding his baby in front of his house past 7 p.m. when four unidentified armed men on two motorcycles arrived and shot him.
Nine gunshots were heard, hitting Paquit in the body. His baby was hit on left leg.
Both victims were brought to the hospital, where Paquit was declared dead.
Police recovered from the scene nine cartridges of .45-caliber gun. Investigation is ongoing.
On May 26, Edward Uy, 22, of Barangay Banilad, Dumaguete City was also slain by two unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants at the said village, police records showed. (Glazyl Masculino)
