GOVERNMENT officials should lead by example and follow the quarantine rules to contain the spread of the coronavirus, Malacañang said yesterday.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque issued the appeal after San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora and his group reportedly broke quarantine protocols during a recent visit to Baguio City.
Zamora has apologized for the quarantine breach while the policemen who were part of his convoy have been removed from their posts.
“Iniiwan po natin ang imbestigasyon ng kasong ito sa ating kapulisan but I appeal to everyone na kinakailangang magsilbing halimbawa ang lahat,” Roque said during a televised press briefing when asked about the Palace appeal to local officials and the police to avoid a repeat of the Baguio incident.
Zamora and his group reportedly skipped a quarantine checkpoint upon arrival at Kennon Road last June 5 and went straight to a country club. A medical team was deployed to the country club to screen the mayor and his group after they failed to present the required medical health clearance.
Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the incident has placed Baguio at serious health risk due to failure to follow health and security protocols. The investigation will reportedly push ahead despite the apology given by Zamora.
