DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite – Multi-awarded artist and TEMPO editorial cartoonist Norman Isaac succumbed to injuries sustained in a motorcycle hit-and-run incident last Sunday here.
His wife, Lerma, said he passed away at 4 a.m. yesterday.
Philippine National Police-Dasmariñas traffic investigator Police Patrolman Norman Guerra said a concerned citizen called Dasmariñas Rescue after seeing Isaac lying on Jose Abad Santos Ave. in Salitran 4.
Noboby witnessed the incident.
Authorities brought Isaac to the Pagamutan ng Dasmariñas where he was treated for head injuries.
Investigators are looking at CCTV footages around the incident site for leads that could help the inquiry.
Isaac is a well-respected cartoonist with a number of awards under his belt, including First Prize, ASEAN Editorial Cartoon Contest, 2007; Best Editorial Cartoonist, Global Media Awards, Population Institute, USA, 1997; and
Best Editorial Cartoonist, National Press Club Journalism Awards, 1989.
He is also a two-time Hidezo Kondo Prize Winner in the Yomiuri Shimbun International Cartoon Contest in 1983 and 1988. He is a veteran member of the Samahang Kartunista ng Pilipinas. (Carla Bauto Dena)
