ILOILO CITY – The Police Regional Office 6 is preparing for the soft reopening on Tuesday of Boracay Island, the country’s most popular beach destination, to re-energize the economy of Malay and the rest of Aklan after the strict lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are now ready to secure Boracay Island, but we will ensure strict implementation of protocols and guidelines established by the task force,” said PRO-6 director Police Brig. Gen. Rene Pamuspusan.
The Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force is only allowing residents of Western Visayas, a region comprised of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental and the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod, to Boracay.
The task force barred those below 21-years-old and above 60-year-old due to perceived vulnerability from COVID-19 from the island.
The task force also only allows entry to the resort island persons with confirmed hotel booking.
PRO-6 acting spokesman Police Lt. Col. Gilbert Gorero said that the Boracay Operation Command Center launched by the PRO-6 recently will boost capacity of the Malay police station to monitor as 25 CCTVs have been installed.
Gorero added that Malay police is also in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies and emergency response teams while conducting simulation exercises to test their preparedness. (Tara Yap)
