Two policemen were killed while two others were wounded when unidentified gunmen attacked the Parang Municipal Police Station in Sulu last Saturday.
A report reaching Camp Crame, Quezon City stated that the gunmen strafed the police station located at the town proper of Parang at around 6:30 p.m., prompting the local police to position themselves to defend the station.
The attack resulted in the deaths of Police Patrolman Arjun Putalan and Police Corporal Mudar Salamat.
Two other cops identified as Police Executive Master Sgt. Hamin Sarribon and Police Senior Master Sgt. Harold Nieva were wounded and taken to the local hospital.
Members of the police elite Special Action Force immediately proceeded to the area to reinforce the local police but the gunmen already fled towards Indanan, Sulu.
Pursuit operations were immediately launched while investigation is being conducted to determine the identity of the attackers.
Sulu hosts a number of armed groups but the dominant is the Abu Sayyaf Group which has been operating in the area since the 1990s.
