Tropical cyclone development is less likely in the country in the next three to five days but sudden rains and thunderstorms may still prevail in the afternoon or evening.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Ariel Rojas said the intertropical convergence zone or the area where trade winds from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres meet may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao and Palawan in the next few days.
Majority of the country may experience fair weather due to the temporary weakening of the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
Rojas said generally warm and humid weather conditions may persist until early afternoon while sudden short-lived rains from localized thunderstorms may prevail from late afternoon until evening.
Severe thunderstorms are often associated with bursts of heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, and gusty winds that usually last up to two hours.
Rojas advised the public to take extra precautions in the event of severe thunderstorms as flashfloods or landslides are possible over low-lying or mountainous communities.
A gale warning was in effect yesterday as rough to very rough sea conditions may prevail across the northern coastlines of Northern Luzon, particlularly in Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands. (Ellalyn Ruiz)
