Around 150 stranded individuals in Metro Manila were transported back to their home provinces in Mindanao onboard the Philippine Coast Guard’s largest ship Monday.
Coast Guard has deployed BRP Gabriela Silang (Offshore Patrol Vessel-8301) to ferry locally stranded individuals (LSIs) from Manila to Davao City and General Santos City on Monday noon after delivering medical supplies and equipment to Visayas, Commodore Armand Balilo, PCG spokesman, said.
Upon arrival at the Port Area in Manila, the LSIs were carefully guided through registration and body temperature checking, while their baggage were loaded at the PCG’s newest offshore patrol vessel, Balilo furthered.
Prior to the trip to Mindanao, six Coast Guard buses were deployed to Villamor Air Base in Pasay City to fetch the stranded locals.
Vice Admiral George Ursabia Jr., Coast Guard commandant, spoke before the LSIs to express his gratitude for their cooperation, through their full compliance with health and quarantine protocols being implemented in the National Capital Region amid the coronavirus disease pandemic.
Ursabia assured them that they will have a safe, secured, and convenient sea transport to their home cities, with the help of the professional crew members of the BRP Gabriela Silang. (Betheena Unite)
