BACOLOD CITY — Police Col. Henry Biñas, Bacolod City police director, has ordered an investigation into the robbery-slaying of a Belgian man at Villa Angela, Barangay Villamonte here on Wednesday.
Biñas said that the perpetrators behind the crime belong to a notorious robbery group operating in the island of Negros, including Negros Oriental.
The incident happened before 2 a.m. when 76-year-old Carl Fmg Nolens was awakened by the noise from other rooms being searched by unidentified armed robbers.
Police Major Charles Gever, head of Police Station 4, said that a burst of gunfire was then heard, prompting the foreigner’s wife to jump off their balcony to escape. She got injured during her escape.
The armed robbers, who were wearing improvised face masks, fled allegedly bringing with them a bag containing a cellular phone, P20,000 cash, and a pair of shades, Gerver said.
Nolens was declared dead at a hospital due to three gunshot wounds in the abdomen, the station commander said.
Gever said that the robbers entered the victim’s house through the sliding window on the second floor of his residence, and hogtied the brother of the foreigner’s wife, who was sleeping at that time at the living room. He was also brought to the maid’s quarters, but he was unharmed. (Glazyl Masculino)
