Mike Plania, the first Filipino boxer to fight and win in the coronavirus era, will head back home in General Santos City to reunite with his family.
Plania’s manager JC Mananquil said yesterday that the first available flight from Las Vegas to Manila will have the new boxing sensation as one of the passengers.
But it could not be determined exactly when that would be but Mananquil insists that Plania deserves a break after being away for almost four months.
Plania floored world No. 1 Joshua Greer twice using a crackling left hook each time in the first and sixth rounds en route to a 10-round majority decision win at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last Wednesday.
Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum staged the fight under strict safety protocols in coordination with the Nevada Athletic Commission.
“My concern now is to how to bring him home (from the US),” said Mananquil amid the ongoing travel restrictions affecting not just the Philippines.
Plania’s duel with Greer was fought at an agreed weight of 120 lbs and Mananquil expects his special fighter to resume his campaign at the super-bantam class of 122.
“We will be discussing this matter but as of now I would like to bring him back,” added Mananquil.
Since March, Plania camped out with three stablemates in Miami, Florida, under the watchful eyes of a Cuban strategist.
