A barangay chairman was gunned down Wednesday night by unidentified armed men in Barangay 384, Quiapo, Manila.
Police said the victim, Abubacar Sharief, 33, along with other barangay officials, was sitting at a temporary outpost at around 11 p.m. when unidentified armed men appeared and asked them to lie on the ground facedown.
The gunmen, who were carrying long firearms, shot the barangay chairman several times in different parts of the body.
After the assailants fled, Sharief’s relatives and some bystanders rushed him to the University of Santo Tomas Hospital, but he was pronounced dead-on-arrival.
A certain Malik Abdulah, 38, who was reportedly hit by a stray bullet in his right leg, was brought to San Juan de Dios hospital and is now in stable condition.
Police said 36 pieces of fired cartridge casing from M16 rifles were recovered from the crime scene.
Police said investigation was still ongoing as of Thursday. (Minka Tiangco)
