CAMP BANCASI, Butuan City – The Philippine Army’s 901st Infantry Brigade launched on Friday a manhunt against members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who killed a member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) in Barangay Caliwan, Tubod, Surigao del Norte on Tuesday night.
901st Brigade commanding general Brig. Gen. Gabriel C. Viray also ordered the field units to closely coordinate with the local police in assisting the family of the victim, Rogelio B. Calinawan, 34,
Calinawan, a member of the Mamanwa tribe, was gunned down in his residence.
Calinawan served as CAFGU member at the Army Patrol
Base in Barangay Hinatigan, Bacuag, Surigao del Norte.
Meanwhile, family members of the victim cried for justice and called on the government to go after the killers.
Based on the initial investigation of the Tubod Municipal Police
Station (MPS), two of the perpetrators were already identified as members of the NPA’s Guerilla Front 16.
The Tubod MPS is still gathering evidence in preparation for the filing of murder charges against the suspects. (Mike U. Crismundo)
