Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año on Friday refuted claims that Central Visayas has been placed under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
He issued the clarification to erase confusion, stressing that only Cebu City, not the entire Central Visayas, was reverted to ECQ.
Central Visayas or Region 7 is composed of the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor and Negros Oriental.
Año in an interview with GMA News said that Bohol province could have been placed under the modified GCQ but the authorities were cautious and on guard to prevent the spike of COVID-19.
Earlier, President Duterte, based on the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), placed Cebu City back to ECQ due to the surge of the virus.
However, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella wants to make an appeal for reconsideration, citing economic concerns. (Chito Chavez)
