The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) headquarters in Manila confirmed on Friday that one of its detainees died and has tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“Sunday may sinugod sa hospital na isang detainee at nag-expire ito Tuesday,” said NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin.
The NBI spokesman said the dead detainee, a senior citizen, contracted the disease based on the result of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.
Meanwhile, Lavin said five NBI detainees and an NBI personnel have tested positive in rapid antibody tests conducted by the Manila Health Office since Thursday.
“As we speak, anim na),” the spokesman disclosed.
Lavin assured the NBI has isolation rooms where detainees are confined after testing positive in rapid tests.
Meanwhile, Lavin said NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric Distor has ordered the NBI headquarters on partial lockdown and will not be accepting “walk-ins”.
“Strictly ‘yung naka-schedule lang,” said the spokesman who explained that those who have scheduled appointments at the NBI will be allowed, including those issued subpoenas and those with applications for NBI clearance.
Lavin assured that the partial lockdown was imposed due to the scheduled ongoing rapid tests and disinfection of the NBI that was ordered by Distor. (Jeffrey Damicog)
