THE number of confirmed coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) cases in the city of Manila has reached 2,019, Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced Monday night.
Domagoso said there were 83 additional cases from Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Domagoso also said that there are now 629 recovered patients in the city.
The death toll in the country’s capital due to COVID-19 is now at 120.
Data from the city government showed that the first district in Tondo still has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the city with 350 cases. It is followed by the second district with 148 cases, Sampaloc district with 137 cases, and Sta. Cruz district with 122 cases.
The Manila mayor said that they have conducted over 130,000 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and rapid tests for the city’s residents and employees as of Monday noon.
The city government’s health officials have performed a total of 13,211 PCR tests and 120,830 rapid tests, he said.
In a related development, Domagoso said that they are waiting for the Department of Health (DoH) to grant their own testing laboratory a license to operate.
The city government built its own COVID-19 testing laboratory at Sta. Ana Hospital, where the Manila Infectious Disease Control Center (MIDCC) is also located.
“So far, we passed so many tests already,” the local chief executive said. “Hopefully, mabigyan na tayo ng green or go signal ng ating Department of Health.”
