POLICE destroyed some P2.6 million worth of marijuana when they discovered a plantation in a remote area in Tinglayan town of Kalinga.
Brig. Gen. R’Win Pagkalinawan, director of the Cordillera regional police, said the marijuana were planted in some 1,200 square meters of land in Barangay Buscalan.
“Our personnel uprooted more or less 13,000 fully grown marijuana plants. Said uprooted marijuana plants were destroyed and burned onsite,” said Pagkalinawan.
The raid was conducted at around 9 a.m. on Monday while the 2nd Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force Company was conducting internal security operation in the area.
Pagkalinawan said the marijuana plantation is just one of the several plantations that they have already discovered in the past weeks.
The province and nearby areas have been identified as one of the major sources of dried marijuana leaves that are being supplied to users in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.
Recently, police arrested three couriers from Cavite after they yielded some P6 million worth of marijuana bricks in a checkpoint in Mt. Province.
