Cloudy skies with rain showers will prevail over most parts of the country this weekend as the intertropical convergence zone and localized thunderstorms are affecting the archipelago.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said that the ITCZ will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Bicol region, Region 4-B or the Mindoro provinces, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan area; Visayas, and Mindanao.
The ITCZ is the converging of winds coming from the northeast and southeast which triggers thunderstorms and rain showers.
The State weather bureau advised residents in areas affected by the weather systems that possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains may occur.
In Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers will prevail due to localized thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides are also possible in these areas during severe thunderstorms, PAGASA added.
PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said no weather disturbance or a looming low pressure area is expected near the Philippine Area of Responsibility within the week.
The southwest monsoon or “habagat,” which could also bring rains, is currently not affecting the country.
The State weather agency had earlier announced the onset of the rainy season in the country following the occurrence of scattered thunderstorms, a tropical depression, and the southwest monsoon which have poured significant amount of rain over the western section of Luzon and Visayas.
