BACOLOD CITY – Criminal charges are being readied against a former policeman for allegedly killing his cousin in Barangay Prosperidad, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on Saturday.
Slain was Armando Arcillas, 63, of the said village, police said.
Police Major Mark Angelo Junco, city police chief, said that the shooting incident happened when Arcillas approached the suspect identified as 73-year-old Jonathan Sumiller, who was reportedly having an argument with his nephew.
Junco said that Sumiller, who was believed to be drunk, allegedly shot Arcillas, when he thought that the latter would attack him with a bladed weapon.
Arcillas succumbed to seven gunshot wounds while Sumiller fled on board a pick-up truck, Junco said.
Police recovered from the scene eight fired cartridges from .9mm gun.
Sumiller was later arrested at his sibling’s house in Barangay Quezon, the town police chief said.
Junco said the suspect alleged that he threw away the firearm he used in the crime.
Junco said that they are eyeing grudges as a possible motive behind the killing. (Glazyl Masculino)
