A detainee at National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) headquarters in Manila has been placed in an isolation area after being tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin said the person is among five detainees who tested positive during the rapid antibody testing conducted by the Manila Health Office last June 18 and 19. He, however, was the only one who tested positive during the confirmatory swab test.
The NBI spokesman said the detainee has remained asymptomatic.
Lavin said another rapid test will be conducted at the NBI on Thursday and Friday by Manila Health Office and NBI health officers.
Lavin said the NBI headquarters has been on lockdown since June 18 and barred “walk-ins”.
“Yung mga ine-engage namin ‘yung mga naka-online na registration sa clearance at ‘yung mga na-isyuhan ng subpoena,” he added.
An elderly NBI detainee already died last June 16 after being rushed to a hospital on June 14.
The hospital conducted tests on the said NBI detainee and found he had been infected with COVID-19. (Jeffrey Damicog)
