THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) seized smuggled Chinese medicines worth around P1 million at a warehouse in Bacoor, Cavite.
NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric Distor said the items were confiscated last Tuesday during an operation conducted by the NBI’s Special Action Unit (NBI-SAU) in coordination with the Bureau of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (BoC-CIIS).
Using a BoC-issued Letter of Authority (LoA) to visit and inspect, Distor said agents of the NBI-SAU went to the warehouse after receiving information that unidentified persons were involved in the smuggling of Chinese goods including cigarettes.
“During the operation, a room was found containing assorted Chinese medicines and upon inquiry, it was learned that a certain Tian Qin, a Chinese national, owns the said medicines,” the NBI said in a statement.
The NBI said 10 boxes of assorted Chinese medicine worth around P1 million were found and turned over to the BoC.
The agency said the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) will examine the medicines.
