BUILDING vegetable and fruit juice processing facilities is among the measures proposed by the government to prevent farmers’ stocks from going to waste during the quarantine period.
In the wake of reports of oversupply of tomatoes due to the shortage of buyers, President Duterte said the Department of Agriculture regional offices have proposed the establishment of facilities to process vegetables and fruits into juices with cold storage as part of a long-term plan to address the concern.
The two other DA proposals are the establishment of vegetable semi-processing facility and composting facility for biodegradable waste as well as a vegetable packing and processing facility, the President said in his recent report to Congress.
The latest government proposals were made in response to the senators’ concern on the oversupply of tomatoes in Nueva Vizcaya and Ifugao, according to the President.
