National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) investigators are now searching for the closed circuit television (CCTV) footages that will help them solve the killing of a Manila prosecutor on Tuesday.
NBI National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) Regional Director Cesar Bacani said on Wednesday that investigators have started probing the ambush-slay of Manila Senior Assistant City Prosecutor Jovencio Senados.
Bacani said the CCTV footages are vital for it could help them lead to the identities of the perpetrators of the crime.
“Nag-iimbestiga pa lang. Hanap ng mga CCTVs (We have just started investigating. We are looking for CCTVs),” Bacani said in a text message.
According to the police, Senados was gunned down at 11:05 a.m. along Quirino Highway corner Anakbayan St. in Paco, Manila.
Unidentified gunmen were allegedly on board a black sports utility vehicle (SUV) with plate number ABG 8133.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra immediately issued Department Order No. 168 which instructed the NBI “to conduct an investigation and case build-up on the killing of SACP Jovencio A. Senados.”
Guevarra also told the NBI that “if evidence warrants, to file the appropriate charges against the persons involved and found responsible therefore.”
He also directed NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric Distor “to submit reports on the progress of the subject investigation and case build-up to the Office of the Secretary within ten days.”
“We are shocked by the audacity of this attack,” Guevarra told reporters.
“It highlights once again the grave peril that our prosecutors face each day in the discharge of their duties,” he said.
