QUEZON City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Wednesday announced that she tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“Nais ko pong ipahayag sa lahat ng aking minamahal na QCitizens na ako po ay nag-positibo sa aking huling COVID-19 test. Nagpapasalamat po ako na agad itong natuklasan,” she said in a statement.
Belmonte admitted she’s asymptomatic and is feeling well. She is currently undergoing quarantine.
The mayor’s office is also temporarily closed for disinfection while the city’s epidemiology is tracking down all individuals she got close contact with.
Belmonte said that she might anytime contract the disease due to her visits to health centers, hospitals and areas under concern lockdown. However, she said, she feels no regret.
“Inihanda ko na po ang aking sarili at buong puso ko po itong tinatanggap,” she said.
Although following safety measures such as wearing face masks, washing hands and observing social distancing, the mayor said, she still got infected.
“Kaya sana ay magsilbi itong paalala na ang COVID-19 ay tunay na isang kakaibang sakit na dapat pag-ingatan pa nang lubusan,” she said.
Belmonte assured her constituents that the local government’s service would continue despite her limited capacity to move around due to being quarantined.
“Maraming salamat po, at asahan ninyong sa aking paggaling, muli po ninyo akong makakasama upang personal po akong makapaglingkod sa inyo,” she added.
