THE process of whipping Mark Magsayo into shape has kicked in after Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach and conditioning coach Justin Fortune and the top Filipino featherweight finally joined hands together in Los Angeles.
Less than a week after arriving in the US from Manila, Magsayo showed up at Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood on Monday (Tuesday in Manila) and again the following day just hours after dropping by Fortune’s gym in the morning for strength training.
Magsayo, who turned 26 last month, “had a lot of fun” with Roach, according to the boxer’s wife and manager Frances Arbie.
Taking photos inside the Wild Card while training is on session is strictly prohibited.
Magsayo, boasting of a 20-0 record with
14 KOs, signed up with Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions last March through the efforts of do-it-all American boxing man Sean Gibbons.
Magsayo, 26, is being targeted to book a fight in September or October if the COVID-19 situation doesn’t take a turn for the worse.
Magsayo is part of a growing list of marquee names under Pacquiao’s promotional banner.
MP Promotions also represents all three Filipino world champions other than Pacquiao: John Riel Casimero, Jerwin Ancajas and Pedro Taduran.
