A MAGNITUDE 4.8 earthquake hit the town of Cabangan in Zambales on Wednesday morning, with tremors felt in nearby provinces including parts of Metro Manila, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
According to Phivolcs, the epicenter of the quake was traced seven kilometers northwest of Cabangan town at around 8:28 a.m..
Phivolcs said the tremor had a depth of 73 kilometers and was tectonic in origin which is caused by ground shaking primarily due to the sudden movement in the earth’s plates. The quake was felt in nearby areas including the town of San Felipe also in Zambales with Intensity IV or “moderately strong shaking,” while Intensity III or “weak shaking” was recorded in Quezon City, Malabon City, and Makati City, and Intensity II or a “slightly felt shaking” in San Mateo, Rizal; and Pasay City.
