STRANDED at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 for almost four months, Estonian Roman Trofimov is now homeward-bound.
He left the country last Tuesday on board KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and is looking forward to a grand reunion with his family after his forgettable stay at NAIA.
Since he arrived last March 20 from Thailand via AirAsia, the 36-year-old Estonian was not allowed to leave the terminal due to coronavirus pandemic.
During the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), he likened himself to a prisoner as he was not allowed by Bureau of Immigration to exercise or even get sunlight due to the rising number of COVID-19 positives in the country.
The Philippine government imposed strict travel restriction during the ECQ and the Estonian was just one of the many tourists who were not allowed to get out of the terminal.
He finally heaved a sigh of relief only last Tuesday after the Estonian Embassy made proper representation with Philippine travel authorities and he was allowed to get home.
The Estonian Embassy got to know about his plight through social media.
