It was a bloody Friday as four persons were killed in an ambush on the national highway in Pigcawayan, North Cotabato.
Police Major Ivan Samoraga, chief of the Pigcawayan Municipal Police Station, said the victims were heading to the town proper onboard a red Toyota Innova with license plates MAF-2108 when they were waylaid in Barangay Tubon at around 6:30 a.m.
Police have yet to identify the victims as of posting time.
Three of the victims were found lifeless inside the Innova while the other managed to get out of the vehicle but was eventually shot by one of the suspects, according to the initial investigation.
Meanwhile, the suspects, according to Samoraga, were onboard a Sports Utility Vehicle and armed with M14 rifles.
The driver of the bullet-riddled Innova lost control of the vehicle and fell on the roadside.
“When we responded to the scene, there were already no signs of life,” Samoraga said in radio interview over dzBB.
Samoraga said a pursuit operation was conducted to catch the perpetrators.
Investigators were also trying to look for possible witnesses and closed circuit television (CCTV) footages which could aid in their probe.
The motive behind the killing is yet to be established.
