The acting chief of police of Dumaran, Palawan and his driver survived an ambush in Taytay, Palawan Sunday.
Police Lt. Col. Imelda Tolentino, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police-Region 4-B (Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan area), said Taytay Police Capt. Erwin Hernandez was on board a police car driven by Police Corporal Mark Russel Evangelista at around 6 a.m. when armed men started shooting the vehicle in Ibangley, Barangay Abongan.
“They came from Dumaran and were heading to the Roxas (town) for official mission when the attack occurred,” said Tolentino.
Tolentino said that fortunately, the two policemen were not hurt.
The two cops tried to engage the attackers but the gunmen immediately fled. Responding policemen rushed to the area for reinforcement.
Tolentino said investigation is still being conducted to determine the motive and the people behind the attack.
