From over 50 in late June, more than 300 Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel have tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID19) at present.
A total of 313 Coast Guard personnel, who have been working on the frontlines of the pandemic, tested positive for the disease while 83 of them have already recovered.
The cases in the organization grew in less than a month as 54 Coast Guard employees were found to have contracted the virus last month but 42 of them have recovered as of June 26.
According to the Coast Guard, the infected employees are deployed in strategic areas to assist the returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) and their families, locally stranded individuals (LSIs), fellow frontline workers, as well as maritime stakeholders including fishermen, ship crew, and cargo truck drivers.
“Of the 313 affected personnel, 83 of them already tested negative for COVID-19 based on their latest swab test results. We are blessed enough that majority of our infected frontline workers are asymptomatic. Nevertheless, we are regularly checking their health condition to ensure that they recuperate well. We are asking for prayers so they may regain their full health and return to service in the soonest possible time,” Vice Admiral GeorgeUrsabia, Coast Guard commandant, said.
