PANGASINAN – A frontliner of Pugo, La Union died on the spot while a returning Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) is now in critical condition after the van they were riding smashed into a concrete fence along Rosario Road in Brgy. Maoasoas Norte, Pugo, La Union on Friday.
A report from the office of Regional Police Director Brig. Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. revealed that the L300 van ridden by Romel Galvez, 37, was negotiating the highway headed North when a motorcycle without headlight suddenly encroached their lane.
To avoid collision with the motorcycle, Galvez tried to maneuver but it was too late as they crashed into the concrete fence.
Kevin Sabado, an employee of Pugo who fetched Maricris Padilla at the border of La Union-Pangasinan where she was dropped by the OWWA representative from Manila, was declared dead on the spot due to severe injuries.
Padilla, who was looking for a grand homecoming, was brought to Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) along with Galvez.
An OWWA represented who was able to speak with Padilla’s partner, Stephen Fermato, said the former mentioned in her last text message that their van was running fast, “Nagpaspas daytuy lugan” (Mabilis ang takbo ng sasakyan). (Liezle Basa Inigo).
