Law enforcers from Pasig City police and the local government have been deployed on Sunday to implement the localized lockdown in four streets in Barangay Manggahan, Pasig.
Pasig City Police chief Col. Moises Villaceran said 86 police officers have already been deployed as of Sunday morning to man the entrance and exit points of Pipino, Labanos, Okra, and Ubas Streets in Napico, Barangay Manggahan.
He said at least 30 more personnel from the Eastern Police District Mobile Force Battalion will be also deployed to conduct patrols.
The police chief added that members of Pasig City Traffic and Management Office (TPMO) and barangay safety officers have also been sent to the area.
“What we have done now was to set up tents and barricades at the entrance and exit points which will be manned by the police and members of the TPMO and barangay security forces,” Villaceran said.
Mayor Vico Sotto announced late Saturday night that a localized enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) will be imposed on the said streets starting July 19 due to the increased number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the area.
The Pasig City government said that the lockdown is effective starting Sunday “until lifted by the City Government.”
“Strict implementation will begin Sunday evening. Residents will only be allowed to leave their houses for work and emergency reasons,” it said.
Sotto said the local government will provide affected residents with food packs to minimize the need to buy food outside.
Villaceran said only authorized persons outside of residence will be allowed to go out. This includes workers and those seeking emergency assistance.
According to the police chief, residents who want to buy their necessities could ask permission or assistance from the authorities stationed in the area.
Latest data from the city government showed that Barangay Manggahan has the second highest number of COVID-19 cases in Pasig with 109 confirmed cases, 53 active cases, 49, recoveries, and seven deaths as of July 18.
Barangay Pinagbuhatan, the city’s most populated village, has the most number of COVID-19 cases in the city with 198 confirmed cases, 99 active cases, 88 recoveries, and 11 deaths.
Pasig City currently has 1,212 confirmed cases, 457 active cases, 661recoveries, and 94 deaths. (Jhon Casinas)
