The three Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) venues tapped by the government to house COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms are nearing its full capacity once again.
Just a day after reopening, the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Vito Cruz in Malate has already accommodated 30 individuals (21 female and nine male).
The Coliseum, which underwent disinfection after the release of its last patient two weeks ago, can still admit 67 thouugh.
Over at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Adriatico Street, the total is 93 (86 female and seven male) with 19 beds still available.
The third facility, the Multi-Purpose Arena at the Philsports in Pasig, currently has 107 (75 male and 32 female). Only 25 beds remain to be filled.
What is quite alarming according to the PSC is the fact that some of these facilities have been getting advisories that they should expect the arrival of more patients.
“Now we are getting advanced information that more are arriving,” said PSC deputy executive director Guillermo Iroy. “This was not the case before.”
The country is experiencing a surge in the number of cases the last two weeks following the decision to ease up on safety protocols.
