Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año on Tuesday vowed to go after those spreading lies as he clarified that he never issued a statement telling couples to practice social distancing after having sex.
The fuming former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief said he will try to unmask the brains behind the ‘fake news’ which was posted on social media following the surge of COVID-19 cases in the country.
“It’s fake news and I will file charges. I also ordered the CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group) to conduct a probe,’’ Año said.
On Monday, Año urged the public to practice physical distancing and wear face masks even inside their residence as records showed that a huge number of family members are now infected by COVID-19.
He cited the importance of wearing face masks inside the residence if the family members cannot practice social distancing.
Explaining his call, Año said that family members who leave for work or go outside their homes for essentials purposes are exposed to the virus.
Although not mandatory except in public transport, Año urged the public to wear face shields for additional protection against COVID-19 especially when going to highly populated areas like marketplaces, workplaces, supermarkets and quarantine facilities. (Chito A. Chavez)
