DAVAO CITY – A nine-year old girl from Matanao town in Davao del Sur became the 57th death due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Davao region on Friday, August 14.
Based on the profiles of the cases released by the Department of Health Davao Center for Health Development Saturday morning, the girl is a resident of Lower Marber in Matanao who had the onset of symptoms on July 18. The girl was admitted on July 28.
The DoH said the girl’s history of exposure is still under investigation.
The DoH reported 25 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday bringing the total number of recorded cases to 1,685. The DoH said 452 of which are still active cases.
“Of these new cases, 11 are from Davao City, eight are from Davao Oriental, three are from Davao de Oro, two are from Davao del Norte, and one from Davao del Sur,” it added.
The youngest of the latest persons to have contracted COVID-19 is an eight-year-old boy from Aliwagwag, Cateel in Davao Oriental. The boy’s history of exposure showed that he was exposed to a confirmed COVID-19 patient identified as DR-1470.
The oldest, meanwhile, is a 75-year-old woman from San Miguel, Cateel. The patient is a locally stranded individual from Cebu City.
The region has also recorded 79 recoveries on Friday, including two children aged eight years old.
One of the children is a girl from Barangay 23-C in Davao City. She was admitted on July 31. The other one is a boy from Ma-a, also in Davao City who was admitted on August 1. Their history of exposure is still under investigation.
The DoH said the latest recoveries include 55 from Davao City, 10 from Davao del Norte, eight from Davao Oriental, five from Davao del Sur, and one from Davao de Oro. The region has reported a total of 1,176 recoveries. (Zea Capistrano)
