LANDMARK BAKERY: I miss Kamuning Bakery.
I miss going to this landmark, historic bakery not only for its wide assortment of breads, but also for the weekly, at times twice weekly breakfast forums that were being held there before COVID-19.
The Pan de Sal Forum at KB was always a good source of sound bites from newsmakers that proprietor Wilson Lee Flores always manages to bring to his café.
Topics at the forum weren’t limited to politics and governance, but also covered discussions on art, entertainment, painting, artists’ welfare.
Early birds to the forum are treated to coffee and pan de sal, with butter or peanut butter on the side, as a prelude to lunch. The café uses only organic coffee from Benguet province that Wilson supports.
The coffee is so strong, so aromatic, I miss it the most.

NO STOPPING: Despite that unfortunate February 2018 fire which burned down most of the establishment, Wilson opted to reopen the bakery and the weekly breakfast forums.
The forum is an intimate, liberal and informal media event, attended by leading newspapers and broadcast channels.
Kamuning Bakery also hosts the annual “World Pandesal Day” every Oct. 16, a day marked by food sharing. It has been a KB tradition since 2015.
