Typhoon “Julian” (international name “Maysak”) has already left the Philippine area of responsibility Monday evening but a weak southwest monsoon or “habagat” may still prevail and affect some parts of the country.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said typhoon “Julian” was at 785 kilometers (km) north-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon on Tuesday morning.
Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio also said there were two other weather disturbances being monitored as of Tuesday–a tropical depression at 2,415 km east of extreme Northern Luzon and a low pressure area at 775 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
Aurelio however noted that the tropical depression is less likely to enter the Philippine area of responsibility while the LPA near Mindanao may not develop into a tropical cyclone.
The southwest monsoon enhanced by typhoon “Julian” may still bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.
PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to scattered moderate with at times heavy rains over these areas.
Based on the PAGASA’s historical record, two to three cyclones may enter or form inside the country’s area of responsibility this September, with some making landfall and crossing land. (Ellalyn De Vera-Ruiz)
