Another round of meetings are scheduled in the coming week as no resolution was met in Tuesday’s meeting between officials of the Joint Administrative Order (JAO) Group and the UAAP concerning two schools who allegedly violated government health protocols.
In a statement, the UAAP Board of Managing Directors said it is going to convene on Thursday “to review the reports and tackle other related cases before taking pertinent actions.”
The meeting lasted for over three hours with UAAP presenting the findings of the internal probe of University of Santo Tomas’ fact-finding committee on its men’s basketball team who reportedly went to a training bubble in Sorsogon and allegedly violated protocols.
“The meeting was an important step towards the resolution of these issues that concern student-athletes of UAAP member-schools,” the UAAP statement read.
National University, whose volleyball teams were also in question for allegedly violating training protocols, was also requested to submit a formal report to UAAP for deliberation.
The statement, however, did not say if the league would be the once to handle sanctions or not.
Present in the meeting were UST legal counsel Atty Alfonso Verzosa and legal coordinator Atty Elgin Michael Perez, NU athletic director Otie Camangian, UAAP executive director Rebo Saguisag and UAAP Season 83 President Nonong Calanog of La Salle.
The government panel was composed of Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Chairman Baham Mitra, Philippine Sports Commission National Training Director Marc Velasco, Commission on Higher Education Commissioner Prospero De Vera III, CHED Executive Director Atty. Cindy Jaro and Department of Health Representative Rodley Carza.
Meanwhile, Velasco said the government panel would discuss UAAP’s findings in a separate meeting scheduled next week.
