CEBU CITY – A policeman who had gone absent without official leave (AWOL) was killed in an ambush early Thursday in Barangay Tisa here.
Capt. Jonathan dela Cerna, chief of the Labangon Police Station, identified the slain former policeman as Ruben Requinto Quita, 48.
Quita was driving his SUV when four men aboard separate motorcycles opened fire at him.
Quita had three passengers, including his 19-year-old son and eight-year-old grandson.
Dela Cerna said Quita died on the spot while his son was taken to a hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds in the body.
Dela Cerna said Quita was a former operative of the Police Regional Office Central Visayas with a rank of police officer 3 but went AWOL in 2016 when he and 28 other police officers were transferred to Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao
“Personal grudges or work-related could be the motive of the attack,” said Dela Cerna. (Calvin D. Cordova)
