Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said on Thursday that Metro Manila mayors will meet on Sunday to discuss possible closure of cemeteries during the “Undas” holidays amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Olivarez, who is also the chairman of the Metro Manila Council (MMC), said metro mayors are hoping to come up with a uniform policy for the observation of All Souls and All Saints Day.
“Pag-uusapan namin this coming Sunday, ng Metro Manila Council, kasama sa agenda namin, para magkaroon kami ng uniform, unified na policy sa darating na Todos Los Santos,” said Olivarez.
Olivarez said only Manila and Mandaluyong have so far ordered the temporary closure of their cemeteries – both public and private – on Wednesday for all Souls and All Saints Day to avoid massive gathering on those two important Christian festivities.
He also said it is the prerogative of local government units to come up with such orders. (Jean Fernando)
