GOING SOFT: Hardcore journalist Luchi Cruz-Valdes says she isn’t afraid that dipping into entertainment would dent her image as a hard news broadcaster.
She’s not about to take on a new career path, either.
“My trunk is still news,’’ she said.
For this journalist, everyone, including actors, is a potential source of news.
Legitimate news.
There is no division between president and movie star in news gathering.
“I treat my subjects the same way,’’ she told an online zoom conference recently.
Luchi was quick to correct herself. She said that when interviewing artists, she’s learned to adopt a softer manner of speech, so as not to scare them.
In news, she admits journalists are quite frank, straight to the point.
“We don’t really care about how the subject takes to our manner of questioning, but in entertainment, I have to shift gears somehow. Yes, it takes some effort, but I’m learning.’’

USAPANG REAL LIFE: Luchi is the newest celebrity interviewer by way of TV5’s “Usapang Real Life with Luchi,” a weekly program that narrates stories of hope and positivity.
Launched Aug. 15, “URL” shows Luchi in a new light, nurturing, compassionate.
This side of hers allows her to connect to her guests, bringing out personal stories that people don’t usually see.
How does she do it?
“I open up on little known facts about my life.’’
