Did you know that certain birds can sleep even as they fly? Reminds you of a type of fish that won’t stop swimming or else it dies?
Thrushes take hundreds of power naps a day, a few seconds at a time, in mid-flight.
That’s according to Reader’s Digest.
Thrushes are small to medium-sized ground living birds that feed on insects, other invertebrates and fruit.
Wikipedia says some unrelated species around the world have been named after thrushes due to their similarity to birds in this family.
Could our maya be one of them?
Thrushes belong to passerine bird family, Turdidae, with a worldwide distribution.
The family was once much larger before biologists determined other sub-families (chats, European robins, etc.).
Brown bats sleep 19 hours a day, upside down, while hanging on tree branches.
Ravens are great at mimicking human speech and sounds.
Ostriches have the largest eyes of any land animal.
Cardinals like to cover themselves in ants. Several other bird species like to do the same, smothering themselves with crushed or living ants.
Why do they allow living ants to crawl on them?
Google says that while scientists aren’t sure what the purpose of “anting” is, some believe the birds use the formic acid secreted during their ant bath to help get rid of lice.
