ILOILO CITY — A former cop and his companion were arrested by police during a drug bust in this city last Sunday.
Police Regional Office (PRO-6) said former policeman Joel Villaruel Destacamento, 53, of Barangay Veterans Village and his cohort Francisco Cabresa Tañedo, 57, were nabbed by members of PRO-6’s Police Drug Enforcement Unit, Iloilo City Police Station 4 and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-6).
PRO-6 spokesperson Police Lt. Joem Malong said Destacamento and Tañedo sold shabu worth P17,200 to an undercover cop before they were busted. The agents also confiscated from them another pack of shabu worth P30,000.
Based on records, Destacamento was assigned as a desk officer at the Iloilo Provincial Police Office (IPPO) before he left service. Since then, the former cop has been identified as high-valued drug personality.
On the other hand, Tañedo has been identified as a street-level drug personality.
The duo are now detained and will be charged for violating Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Tara Yap)
