A mother and her two children were injured after the car they were riding collided with a speeding mixer truck at the corner of A. De Jesus Street and 10th avenue in Caloocan City on Tuesday.
Police identified the victims as Sharon Sy, 36, businesswoman; Danica Valdez, 20, student; and a four-year-old boy, all residents of East Grace Park, Caloocan City.
Investigation showed that Sy was driving a red Hyundai Veloster along 10th Avenue going east toward A. Bonifacio in Quezon City at around 2 a.m. when the accident happened.
Meanwhile, the mixer truck, whose driver and passenger are still unidentified, was plying A. De Jesus Street going south toward C3 Road.
Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage from the Caloocan City government showed that the Hyundai Veloster car collided with the right portion of the mixer truck upon reaching the intersection.
Both vehicles slid toward A. De Jesus Street due to the impact.
The mixer truck then hit a wall and fell on its right side, crushing the hood of the victims’ car.
The driver and helper aboard the mixer truck reportedly fled on foot.
The victims, who sustained injuries after being jerked forward due to the impact, were brought by responders to Metropolitan Hospital.
Earlier, the Caloocan City government advised motorists to avoid the site of the accident to prevent traffic.
Those who intend to use the affected roads must use the alternative route from 11th Avenue to 7th Avenue toward C3 Road.
Follow-up operation is ongoing for the possible identification and arrest of the mixer truck driver and helper, who may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to properties.
