ILIGAN CITY – A member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed and four high-powered firearms were seized by the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion (53rd IB) during an encounter Monday in Barangay Marangan, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.
Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, commander of the 53rd IB, identified the slain rebel as Bernie Nunez alias “Gogo”, a member of the Main Regional Guerilla Unit (MRGU) of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC).
The military troops confiscated two M16 rifles, one M203 grenade launcher, and one AK47 assault rifle.
Last August, the municipality launched the “OPLAN AMUMA” to address the insurgency and terrorism because the town has long been considered as the hideout of the NPA. (Bonita L. Ermac)
