A police official who is retiring in less than two years was the latest fatality of the Philippine National Police (PNP) from the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.
Based on the PNP data, the 54-year old police official assigned to one of the Regional Maritime Unit of the Maritime Group died on October 5 after days of battling the health complications brought by the coronavirus infection.
The death of the male police official came as 32 new cases were reported based on the latest result of the swab test released to the PNP.
Thirteen of the new cases were from Metro Manila, six in Bicol and five in Central Luzon.
As of Tuesday night, the PNP recorded 6,227 COVID-19 infections, 5,240 of them were able to recover.
The total number of active cases, however, is only 969 that reflect a high recovery rate in the PNP.
Most of those infected got the virus while deployed on the frontlines, or manning border control points or conducting community patrol. (Aaron Recuenco)
